Adult Swim's Top New Show of 2025 Secures a Substantial Extension for Two More Seasons.

During the fall season, Adult Swim welcomed back its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. However, not long after, the channel launched a brand-new animated series with a strikingly different vibe. Haha, You Clowns proved to be heartwarming and calm, evoking a animated take of a contemplative talk show. At a time often defined by dark humor, this show's sincerity struck a chord and turned it into a breakout hit.

A Major Commitment

In mid-December, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to develop the world of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose primary trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four central characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the audience of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," remarked Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

A President's Endorsement

Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He specifically highlighted the fans who discovered the show and advocated for its distinctly quirky appeal.

"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. It offers something surprisingly comfy about watching this endearing family navigate their daily lives.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to move the comedy genre beyond its prevailing sarcastic tone. He traced this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we keep returning to,” said Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we need to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

The Path Forward

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa may well help usher in that change he described. At a minimum, the renewal promises audiences a little more time to enjoy the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The entire series is ready to watch on HBO Max.
