Iran Reports Assault on American Facility in the Kingdom of Bahrain, During Regional Counterattacks.
Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched missile attacks throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a significant and continuing attack against it by the United States and Israeli forces.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an vicinity near the main base of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any destruction is uncertain and the US has remained silent.
Airspace Engagements
Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - which all house US military bases - said they have intercepted incoming projectiles in their air space.
In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence announced it had intercepted several missiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.
IRGC Statement
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the offensive on the Islamic Republic launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.
That US-Israeli operation - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck areas linked to the the regime, with US President Donald Trump urging the people of Iran to rise up against the leadership.
Wider Impacts
In the State of Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israeli military reported it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The Ministry of Defence of the UAE stated that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems engaged the projectiles with high efficiency and shot down a number of missiles," the statement continued.
It said wreckage landed in a residential area in Abu Dhabi, causing some material damage and killing a civilian.
The United States Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
