Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Munich was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Consistent Goalscoring to Boost United's Forward Line
The experienced striker's signing should represent a major boost to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford
Securing the German international comes at a time when United seem to be building momentum.
Their recent performances include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further business:
- The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
