The Blue Jays Earn Fall Classic Showdown With defending champion Dodgers
The outfielder was instrumental for the Houston Astros securing the World Series in the 2017 season.
The Toronto Blue Jays advanced to their first Fall Classic after 1993 by defeating the Seattle Mariners in the seventh seventh game of the ALCS.
Behind 3-1, outfielder George Springer delivered a three-run homer in the seventh inning, propelling the Toronto squad in MLB to a 4-3 series victory in the best-of-seven series. They will now face the Dodgers, who are the current crown, in the upcoming championship.
"I'm thrilled for everyone here, our city, Canada," commented Springer, an integral part of the Astros team that won the 2017 title. "This is such an incredible feeling."
Springer has now slugged twenty-three post-season home runs, ranking him third on the list behind Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (27).
"There's probably not another person anywhere that I'd prefer in that situation other than George Springer with his October magic," said manager John Schneider.
The Mariners, after leading the series two games to none and three games to two, continue to be the one club that has never reached in a Fall Classic.
Wilson said "without a doubt that it hurts" in the wake of his side's defeat at their home ballpark, but commended their efforts in the campaign.
"This is a unique group. Sadly that we finished on the wrong side of the series," he continued.
Toronto's team secured the World Series on both previous visits in 1992 and 1993, and will host the Los Angeles in game one on Friday.
