The Latest Relaxed Playlist Ignites Heated Discussions Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Recently, the game developers introduced a new game mode called Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but includes several notable adjustments:
- Every squad includes just eight human participants, with the remaining made up of 32 bots.
- Activities performed by human gamers grant full XP, while AI activities provide reduced XP.
- Only two locations can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
- Features like Player tags, achievements, and stat tracking have been turned off.
In short, the playlist delivers on its title: it's a laid-back take of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume there's nothing wrong, since it gives additional choices for players looking for different methods to have fun with the game. But, if video games has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, a lot of Battlefield 6 players are upset.
Community Responses: Anger to Praise
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," reads a response to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing concept," comments a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," and someone else details everything they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, amid the criticism, there are players sharing how much they're liking the new mode. "It's very fun to practice, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads one Reddit comment. "The community doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this game 24/7. Allow them to strike a balance," adds a different comment. One reply on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," while another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Constructive Criticisms and Community Input
All that said, there are valid points to complain about the new mode. Some users have pointed out that it could increase wait times more extended for other modes due to the large amount of playlists currently available. Similarly, some areas often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to offer full XP, even against bots, but that got canned when they attempted to eliminate bot farms from the mode. Thus Casual Breakthrough feels like the community compromising in the middle, according to forum feedback. A different user describes this addition as the devs "making a mistake so hard, I experienced so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Will Changes Be Made?
If Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Tasks that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, should analytics indicates this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to change it again.
