Vince Gilligan Discloses He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Might Finish... Currently.
The acclaimed writer-producer did not foresee that his new science-fiction series would become a massive hit. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he remarks. “It was unexpected the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”
With the first season of the acclaimed sci-fi show reaching its finale—and a second season officially in the works—Gilligan and his team recently discussed the fan response and whether it will impact the narrative path of Pluribus.
Regarding the Incredible Viewer Reception
It would be easy to get distracted by the rampant praise and fan theories surrounding Pluribus. The creator is striving to ignore the noise.
“It feels like constantly eating your favorite dessert and being laughing uncontrollably,” he says. “It's wonderful, but I learn of it anecdotally, and that's intentional. I have never Googled myself, nor do I ever plan to. It's quite the opposite. It's a rabbit hole I know I would disappear down and then I'd be never leaving the house from the hardware store and I'd be stuck in my living room.”
Regardless of his concerted efforts, there’s no escaping the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The most practical strategy is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it alter the course of the show.
“We don't try to tailor anything,” says Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not influenced by what people are saying.”
“It's wiser to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan concludes.
The Central Mystery: Does Vince Gilligan Know the Ending of Pluribus?
Considering Gilligan and his team are not listening by audience theories, can we assume they already know how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? Essentially yes… with some caveats.
“We have some interesting ideas about where the show might end up,” Gilligan reveals. “however, we remain prepared to throw out a good idea for a better idea. This approach has served us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we find a more perfect path and I imagine we will be doing that.”
Then again, if they hit a wall, Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to fall back on.
“I keep pitching that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and we're in there,” Smith jokes, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”
Alternatively, one could always use the legendary finales?
“I want Carol to open her eyes beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan says with a smile.
